January 2016 Mythoard

It’s a new year and a newly revamped Mythoard. I mean, check out that new website and sign-up portal with Crate-Joy.

This month there is a White Star rulebook, Big Damn Dryden starter book, an Astrogators Chartbook, two plasticard character stands, a ‘hit’ die, The First Sentinel adventure, and mini-venture The Robot Uprising.

I’ve been hearing a lot about White Star on OSR blogs I follow, so I’m eager to give this one a read, but I’ve never had a successful Sci-Fi campaign (which is definitely the genre and certainly not the fact that my friends and I tried to start them numerous times during high school, a flaky time for gaming). The Astrogators Chartbook is an empty book for filling out your own star systems and maps, but I may find a way to re-purpose the hex maps to make some 3-d globes on the dodecahedron templates.  Once I finish looking over the White Star book, I’ll check out Big Damn Dryden. At the very least, these Sci-Fi items are excellent fodder for interesting, cursed, and alternate-costed magic items.

Professor Shaw has gone mad with powIMG_0785er in his little robot factory that can easily be inserted into any sci-fi game or (with a little magic dust and some work) be converted to a hi fantasy game.

It’s almost like Mythoard knew about my die-drop injury chart! Too bad my players have decent healing magic now, so they don’t get hurt like they used to. The plasticard minis are of good quality and always welcome.

This adventure is most definitely suited to being dropped into an existing part of the world, with the players able to find a burned down cabin in a place they had already visited. The appearing tower and roaming monsters are well suited to the task of making formerly safe places unsafe.
